Its habit is shrubby and highly branched. In time it can become a tree up to 20 metres tall, forming a very short, thick trunk and an umbrella-shaped, although somewhat irregular, crown. On the branches of older specimens, hanging aerial roots grow, reddish and very fibrous. The younger branches are covered with fine white or greyish down that disappears as they mature. Both the trunk and the older branches are reddish and show visible fissures in the bark. I<\/i>t is an evergreen tree with opposite, oblong leaves with a smooth margin and an acute or pointed apex. They are a very glossy olive green on the upper surface and whitish underneath. Thick and leathery, their midrib is whitish and very visible on the underside, unlike the secondary veins, which are barely perceptible.<\/p>\n
It flowers in spring in striking, abundant inflorescences made up of five petals from which a tight group of fine filaments emerges, of a striking red colour, with the pollen at their tips.
